Supporting Yourself

Staying Healthy For You – Staying Healthy for Your Loved One

Remember that disordered eating is an illness and is nobody’s fault. The time required to care for your loved one, from grocery shopping to appointments to monitoring, can take over every part of your life. You will need to take breaks, pass on some tasks when possible, and keep tabs on your own physical and mental well-being. It is important to list who else in your life can help with the day-to-day issues of caring for you, your loved one, and other members of your family.

It is important to look at your other resources for assistance. Begin by listing all the extra tasks involved with being a caregiver, and then list other people in your family and circle of friends that can be helpful. Remember, even 6 year olds can help with family chores; neighbours and extended family are often more than willing to assist with driving or looking after younger family members.
